Short-eared Owl was found on Axe Cliff by the golf course on Friday afternoon and was seen again yesterday but today was the first opportunity that I've had to go and look for it. Bun hadn't been to see it either so I picked him up on the way. We were very hopeful that it would show after a band of heavy rain had passed through and it did just that. It showed really well off and on hunting over the roughs on the golf course and the adjoining hedgerows, sometimes disappearing off the the east for several minutes at a time. Then after sitting in a tree for a few minutes it flew off along the cliffs to the east again and didn't return before we left. A lovely way to end the day!
It had picked up a lot of grass on an unsuccessful dive and was carrying it around with it.
This one came out better than I thought it would as it was taken through the branches of a tree in the foreground
The moon was looking lovely in the deep blue evening sky.
