Driving along the side of the estuary yesterday, I decided to pull over and have a quick look at the birds. There weren't many of them so I wasn't expecting much but on the water's edge right where I'd parked was a lovely adult
Mediterranean Gull. Not too unusual in itself but getting such close views of one on the Axe Estuary are few and far between, in my experience at least. It was chased off by an aggressive
Black-headed Gull a couple of times but always came back to the same spot, the reason being it was catching lots of lug worms.
I watched it catch at least a dozen of these in the short time I was watching
A lovely gull and a real pleasure to watch.
