Insectivorous Plants in Dorset

Here are a few photos of insectivorous plants from the Purbeck and Wareham Forest area of Dorset

Pitcher Plant - Sarracenia purpurea
A North American plant naturalized on this Dorset heathland.

Round-leaved Sundew - Drosera rotunifolia

Oblong-leaved Sundew - Drosera intermedia

Great Sundew - Drosera anglica

This is the Godlingston Sundew which is a hybrid of Round-leaved Sundew and Oblong-leaved Sundew, As its name suggests, it grows on Godlingston Heath which may be its only site in Europe. It's a typical hybrid in that it is very robust with much larger leaves than either parent.

Godlingston Sundew - Drosera x belezeana

Nordic Bladderwort - Utricularia stygia

Pale ButterwortPinguicula lusitanica

Those sundews look yummy - good thing I am not an insect or I would be in a sticky mess of trouble. Great shots.

Brilliant stuff, I've still to see that particular bladderwort. This just gets me all excited for next season! Thankyou :)

Sensational: just sensational! We get most of these in Norfolk, but not (as far as I'm aware!) the Pitcher Plants....

Wilma - They doo look alluring!

Seth - Thankyou! I'm exited for next season too. Seems so far away.

David - Thankyou! Pitcher Plants are seen as an unwelcome invasive so better if you don't get then in Norfolk I suppose.
